Windows Vista Proved Susceptible To Malware
Microsoft claims that its new operating system Windows Vista is the most secure in the whole product line of Windows. However, according to a research conducted by PC Tools Software security provider, Windows vista is more vulnerable to dangerous malware then its predecessor Windows 200 and only slightly more secure then Windows XP. Statistical data from nearly 1.5 million computers shows that Vista fails to secure 639 threats per 1000 computers, compared to 586 for Windows 2000, 478 for Windows 2003 and 1,021 for Windows XP which remains to be the most insecure version of Windows.
The Microsoft Corporation, however, does not agree to the results and questions the research methodology of PC Tools, which being a anti-malware and security products vendor (particularly ThreatFire) is certainly financially interested in high vulnerability figures for Microsoft’s software and operating systems.
An official spokesman for Microsoft said stated that the company appreciates independent researches that could contribute to the security of its products but this particular study had been carried out by an interested party and therefore didn’t reflect the real situation. A Microsoft’s research detected malicious software only on 2.8% of Vista equipped computers out of more than 400 million.
